Birds of Prey
Eagles
Birds of Prey have captured my attention since I was in my twenties. I created a series of limited edition prints of some of my pen and ink illustrations back then and I’ve been drawing and illustrating them ever since. Eagles are some of my favorite creatures on earth, and the Bateleur Eagle, in particular, is amazing!
Falcons
Falcons are some of the fastest birds on our planet. Peregrine falcons, in particular, can reach speeds in excess of 180 miles per hour when they dive to attack their prey. That makes them both the fastest birds on the planet, and the fastest species on the planet.
Owls
Did you know that the feathers on the wings of an owl are shredded on the edge so that they are almost completely silent when they fly? Owls are mostly nocturnal hunters and most of the time their prey never sees them coming. I had an up-close moment one morning when a Great Horned Owl snagged a huge snake out of the long grass in my neighborhood and flew it right across the windshield of my van as I left to take my kids to school. I’m glad it found it before I did.
